Borough Council elections in May

The candidates for this year’s elections to Swindon Borough Council have now been announced. These elections were postponed from last year owing to the pandemic and will be on Thursday 6th May.

For East Wichel, which is in the Old Town ward of Swindon Borough Council, there are six candidates standing for one seat.

  • Tim Almond — Libertarian Party
  • Lawrence Elliott — Conservative Party
  • Bill Hughes — Green Party
  • Jane Milner-Barry — Labour Party
  • Martin Wiltshire — Liberal Democrats
  • Stephen Woodham — independent

For the rest of Wichelstowe, which is part of the Wroughton & Wichelstowe ward of Swindon Borough Council, there are nine candidates for two seats.

  • Martin Barrett — Liberal Democrats
  • Pippa Fairbourn — Green Party
  • Simon Fairbourn — Green Party
  • Brian Ford — Conservative Party
  • Abdul Hamid — Labour Party
  • Shanti Mabberley — independent
  • David Martyn — Conservative Party
  • Adam Poole — Liberal Democrats
  • Zohaib Tariq — Labour Party

Owing to the pandemic, social distancing and other protective measures will be in place for those wishing to vote in person at a polling station, with voters requested to take their own pen or pencil to mark their vote. Those wishing to vote by post need to get their application to Swindon Borough Council by Monday 19th April. Full details are on the council’s website.

Elections for the Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner will also be on the same date.
