New Swindon Half Marathon photo special

In what was probably better weather for runners than it was for spectators, 2076 runners completed the New Swindon Half Marathon yesterday. These are some of the scenes as runners made there way along Blackhorse Way at East Wichel, which was just after 10 miles into the race. Complete results are available on the New Swindon Half Marathon’s website.

The leading male runner, Ben Cole. He went on to finish in the lead at 1 hour 8 minutes and 7.5 seconds.

The leading female runner, Fee Maycock. She went on to be the first woman to finish with a time of 1 hour 26 minutes and 3.8 seconds.
East Wichel’s Rev. Owen Green, running a little after the 2 hour pace. He finished in a time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 25.9 seconds.
South Swindon MP and Solicitor General, Robert Buckland, running a little after the 2 hour 15 minutes pace. He finished with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 17.7 seconds.
The first large group of runners, accompanying the 1 hour 40 minute pace runners.
Some of runners around the 1 hour 50 minutes pace runners had breath to spare to chat.
There were very few runners in novelty costumes. This was the first.
The 2 hour 15 minute pace runner turned to encourage those behind him on, perhaps inadvertently making them envious that he had the energy to run backwards whilst they struggled to keep up.
Lengthy queues built up on Blackhorse Way as Croft Road was closed for traffic heading to the town centre. Later on tempers became a little frayed when cars had been stopped from turning onto Eyam Way for over half an hour.
