The Bayberry pub scheduled to open on 14 May 2012

Construction work on Marston’s Inns’ pub near the Croft Road entrance to East Wichel started last week. Marston’s are already advertising for a manager for the pub which is to be named ‘The Bayberry’. The pub is scheduled to open on 14 May 2012.

May update: the pub is now scheduled to open at the end of the month on 28 May.

Great news to have a 'local' but how on earth did Marstons get planning permission to build such a large pub so close to housing. I would imagine those who have lived in the houses must be gutted

Well, it’s no bigger than some of the other buildings in East Wichel, such as the block which has Sovereign’s office in, or the yet-to-be-built parade of shops. So visually I don’t think it’s too bad — and in the original plans this site was destined for light industrial units or offices which could have been larger.

It’s impact — or rather the impact of those leaving it after a few too many drinks — at closing time might be far less welcome.

worth a try to ask, but do you have any details to book a party on the 18th may at the bayberry pub?

The pub now has an email address shown on their webpage. You could try that.

Any news on jobs at The Bayberry

I’ve not seen any advertised yet, apart from the advert for the pub manager.
