At its meeting on 21 March, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet approved funds to build a community centre for East Wichel. This is part of the council’s capital programme for the 2012/2013 financial year.
A total of £600,000 has been set aside to build the centre. The cost has risen from an original estimate of £300,000 as extra drainage work and stronger foundations will be needed. The new budget also allows for a building more in keeping with the rest of East Wichel than the rather basic container-like structure that was first proposed. The centre will be built on a site near the school car park.
